Accessibility Statement
I am committed to ensuring physical and digital accessibility for people of marginalized identities and disabilities and am continually improving the user experience for everyone and applying the relevant accessibility standards. I also acknowledge the suggested read times listed at the top of each Ritual in Writing (blog post) are not taking into account the possibility of neurodivergence, invisible illnesses and other learning disabilities. These suggested read times are created by assuming the reader is able of reading uninterrupted as a heteronormative person at 238 words per minute, which may not be possible for each person that chooses to interact with this content.
Conformance status
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. Kennae is partially conformant with CPAG 2. 1 level AA. Partially conformant means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard.
Digital Footprint and Land Acknowledgement
I am committed to honoring the lands of which I reside, take up residency on and conduct my work as a steward and global citizen of the Earth. As a steward of the Earth and small part of the ecological system, I am committed to honoring both the Indigenous First Nations peoples of the lands in which I inhabit and conduct my work and the lands themselves.
In South Carolina, my work in Charleston is conducted on the indigenous lands of the Kusso and Edisto tribes.
In Gresham, my work is conducted on my ancestral land previously inhabited by the enslaved ancestors of her paternal maternal side. Prior to enslavement the land was inhabited by the Lumbee, Pee Dee and Waccamaw Indigenous people.
In Durham, Raleigh, Chapel Hills, NC my work is conducted on the Lumbee, Cheraw, Tuscarora, Catawba, Occaneechi and Shakori Indigenous lands.
As a result of the colonization of Turtle Island, it is of the utmost importance to acknowledge how digital spaces and access are often denied to Indigenous/First Nations tribes and continue to cause colonization and harm to those remaining. To inform my relationship with the lands of which I steward and conduct my work, I remain in contact with the tribes via annual contributions and commitment to stewardship of the local ecology.
To locate what indigenous lands you are inhabiting, please visit here. To extend land acknowledgment beyond a statement, please read the work of Indigenous leaders here and make a financial contribution to the wisdom and work of Indigenous people and their efforts to rematriarch the land, visit here.
